2022-2023 Season Preview

Projected Record: 40-42

It was a disappointing season for the Lakers last year as they failed to make even the Play-In tournament. Health and roster construction played a major factor as the the trio of AD, LeBron, and Russell Westbrook never truly blended together . This offseason saw general manager Rob Pelinka turn over the roster, add a new Head Coach, and create more depth to aide LeBron James lead the Lakers back to the Playoffs.

Adding Patrick Beverly allows Darvin Ham to play Russell Westbrook off the bench and run the second unit as the primary ball handler. A healthy Kendrick Nunn returns to start and brings the ability to stretch the floor and be a secondary playmaker. The Lakers return two young bigs to improve the team’s rebounding and provide the screening in Coach Ham’s new look Motion Offense. A weakness last year has been improved with savvy pickups in Juan Toscano-Anderson and Dennis Schroeder combine with Austin Reaves to provide bench depth.

All of this is moot however if either Anthony Davis or LeBron James miss extended time due to injury. Both closed last season on injured reserve as the Lakers missed out of the playoffs entirely. The last time we saw these two together and healthy the Lakers took home the Larry O’Brien trophy after winning the NBA Finals in the Bubble. Can they recapture that magic and add another ring to the legacy of both LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers?
